India Moved Up in World’s Most Competitive Economies Ranking :)

Indian Economy Moves Up

On the strength of its energetic financial markets and a sound banking sector, India moved up one mark to the 49th spot in the World Economic Forum’s annual ranking of the world’s most competitive economies.

🙂

However, according to ‘‘The Global Competitiveness Report 2009-10’‘, Switzerland took the top slot to topple the U.S. to the second position while the next 3 ranks were accounted for by Singapore, Sweden and Denmark to make up the top five among the 133 countries.

🙂

However, the BRIC nations like, India, China and Brazil improved upon their position in the competitiveness index while Russia experienced a sharp drop.

😦

On the other hand, while India moved up one slot to 49 from 50 last year, China also upped its rank to 29 from 30 earlier while Brazil also moved up 8 places to 56 in the last ranking.

🙂

However, Russia, lost ground and declined to the 63rd position from 51 last year.

Moreover, it is said that India”s cut throat performance continues to showcase a rather upturned development pattern and it precedes many advanced economies in terms of business sophistication and innovation capacity.

🙂

Additionally, India also boasts active financial markets and a sound banking sector, supported by well-functioning institutions.

🙂

However, taking the various parameters separately, India is ranked 16th in terms of its bustling financial markets, 25th in terms of a sound banking sector and has the 54th position for its well-functioning institutions.

🙂

But on the other hand,as well, the country under performs on some of the basic determinants of competitiveness, namely health and primary education (101st), macroeconomic stability (96th)—though improving—and infrastructure (76th), the Global Competitiveness Report said.

Keep Swine Flu at Bay : Stay Safe with Home Remedies ;)

swine-flu

Dont give in to the swine flu panic !!

Rather adopt number of measures you can take to ensure that the virus is not able to get you.

😉

Best trick is to keep yourself healthy and fit. Build your own defences and keep your immune system strong enough to ward off any virus/bacteria attack.

🙂

Lets check out some measures to tackle a flu virus of any kind, including swine flu. 😉

It is not necessary to follow all the steps at once. Pick a combination of remedies that suit you best. 🙂

However, in case of Flu, these measures can help only up to an extent. 🙂

And, if you are already H1N1 infected, mind you, visiting a hospital and staying in solitary confinement is a must.

🙂

Here we Go…

1. Tulsi Leaves – Have five duly washed leaves of Tulsi (known as Basil in English) everyday in the morning.

Tulsi has a large number of anti bacterial properties. 🙂

It keeps throat and lungs clear and helps in infections by way of strengthening your immunity.

🙂

2. Giloi – It is a commonly available plant in many areas.

Take a one-foot long branch of giloi, add five to six leaves of Tulsi and boil in water for 15-20 minutes or long enough to allow the water to extract its properties.

Add black pepper and sendha (salt used during religious fasts) or Misri (crystalised sugar like lumps to make it sweet) according to taste.

Let it cool a bit and drink this kadha (concoction) while still warm.:)

It will work wonders for your immunity. 🙂

If giloi plant is not available, get processed giloi powder from Hamdard or others, and concoct a similar drink once a day.

🙂

3. Garlic – Those who can take garlic, must have two pods of raw garlic first thing in the morning. To be swallowed daily with lukewarm water. 🙂

Garlic too strengthens immunity like the earlier measures mentioned.

🙂

4. Milk – Those not allergic to milk, must take a glass of hot or lukewarm milk every night with a small measure of haldi (turmeric).

🙂

5. Take homeopathic medicines — Pyrogenium 200 and Inflenzium 200 in particular — five tablets three times a day, or two-three drops three times a day.

While these are not specifically targeted at H1N1 either, these work well as preventive against common flu virus.

🙂

6. Yoga Do Pranayam daily (preferably under guidance if you are already not initiated into it) and go for morning jog/walk regularly to keep your throat and lungs in good condition and body in fine fettle. 🙂

It will work wonders for your body’s resistance against all such diseases which attack the nose, throat and lungs, besides keeping you fit.

🙂

7. Citrus Fruits – Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich Amla (Indian gooseberry) juice.

Since fresh Amla is not yet available in the market, it is not a bad idea to buy packaged Amla juice which is commonly available nowadays.

🙂

Last Not the least wash your hands frequently every day with soap and warm water for 15-20 seconds; especially before meals, or each time after touching a surface that you suspect could be contaminated with flu virus such as a door handle or a knob/handle, especially if you have returned from a public place or used public transport.

Remember, “Prevention is Better Than Cure”. 😉

Select Pharma Stocks Gain On Tamiflu Demand :)

Pharma Stocks

As the Government is looking at ramping up procurement of the generic version of Tamiflu (oseltamivir), the share prices of those Indian pharma companies which might begin producing the drug, surged on Tuesday.

🙂

The share prices of these companies gained between two per cent and 19 per cent.

🙂

As the virus has reached pandemic levels with the death toll rising to fifteen and a large number of people having tested positive across the country, the Government is looking at stockpiling about another two crore capsules of the drug.

Tamiflu is currently being imported from Swiss drug maker, Roche.

🙂

Ranbaxy, Cipla, Natco Pharma, Strides Acrolabs and Panacea Biotech are vying to produce the generic version of the drug.

🙂

Strides closed up 4.78 per cent, Ranbaxy 6.71 per cent, Panacea Biotech 1.59 per cent and Natco Pharma 18.93 per cent.
Though Cipla closed the day down 0.48 per cent, it was up more than three per cent during the day.

🙂

Mr Jagannadham Thunuguntla, Equity Head at SMC Capital said that the Government looking at stocking up the drug immediately would boost the reputation of these companies.
“This will not impact the bottomlines of these companies much.”

🙂

The Swine flu virus, which emerged in Mexico and the US first in April, has been spreading to other countries. 😦

It is a global pandemic which has hit India much later than other countries. Globally more than 1.6 lakh people have been affected and 1154 deaths have been recorded, according to the World Health Organisation.

🙂

The swine flu scare didn’t seem to affect the stock markets much as it ended the day flat; the Sensex closed up 64 points.

The BSE Health Care index was up 0.95 per cent, as 14 scrips advanced and 8 declined on Tuesday.

India: 10 Preventive Steps to keep Swine-Flu Away

Swine-flu

They say prevention is better than cure and now that Swine Flu is spreading like Wildfire in India too, we need to come up with some proactive measures so that we are not a victim of the deadly disease.

Here are 10 things you can do to protect yourself from the virus.

🙂

1. Wash your hands frequently

Use the antibacterial soaps to cleanse your hands.
Wash them often, at least 15 seconds and rinse with running water.

🙂

2. Get enough sleep

Try to get 8 hours of good sleep every night to keep your immune system in top flu-fighting shape.

🙂

3. Keep hydrated

Drink 8 to10 glasses of water each day to flush toxins from your system and maintain good moisture and mucous production in your sinuses.

🙂

4. Boost your immune system

Keeping your body strong, nourished, and ready to fight infection is important in flu prevention.
So stick with whole grains, colorful vegetables, and vitamin-rich fruits.

🙂

5. Keep informed

The government is taking necessary steps to prevent the pandemic and periodically release guidelines to keep the pandemic away.
Please make sure to keep up to date on the information and act in a calm manner.

🙂

6. Avoid alcohol

Apart from being a mood depressant, alcohol is an immune suppressant that can actually decrease your resistance to viral infections like swine flu.
So stay away from alcoholic drinks so that your immune system may be strong.

🙂

7. Be physically active

Moderate exercise can support the immune system by increasing circulation and oxygenating the body.
For example brisk walking for 30-40 minutes 3-4 times a week will significantly perk up your immunity.

🙂

8. Keep away from sick people

Flu virus spreads when particles dispersed into the air through a cough or sneeze reach someone else’s nose.
So if you have to be around someone who is sick, try to stay a few feet away from them and especially, avoid physical contact.

🙂

9. Know when to get help

Consult your doctor if you have a cough and fever and follow their instructions, including taking medicine as prescribed.

🙂

10. Avoid crowded areas

Try to avoid unnecessary trips outside. Moreover, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs spread this way.
